The Importance of Water
Stop just for a moment and run through your normal daily routine from the moment you open your eyes in the morning to when you close them at night.. From brushing our teeth, showering, putting the kettle on for a cup of tea, cooking, washing our clothes, drinking and cleaning the dishes - we are all completely dependent on a plentiful supply of safe water to see us through each day. But what may come as a basic necessity of life to you and I is a privilege that over a billion people around the world lack.
This is where we can help..
Facts and Stats
· 800 million people across the globe do not have access to clean drinking water.
· 88% of diseases are caused by drinking unsafe water and inadequate sanitation.
· 90% of the 30,000 deaths that occur every week from drinking unsafe water are children under 5.
Digging Wells
Muslim Hands works to build a number of wells in countries across the globe. These wells are situated in communal places such as mosques, schools or village centres and serve large groups of people.
There are different types of wells available at a range of prices; £160 for a tube well, £550 for a deep water well and £2000 for a ground water well. InshaAllah we aim to raise £2000 to build a ground water well, however if we don’t raise enough funds we will use whatever amount we receive to build smaller cheaper wells.
Sadaqah Jariyah
The Prophet (sallAllahu 'alayhi wasallam) said “If a human dies, then his good deeds come to an end except for three: sadaqah jariyah (continuous charity), beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.” [Muslim].
One of the sources of sadaqah jariyah is building a well; the Prophet (sallAllahu 'alayhi wasallam) said “Whosoever digs a well will receive reward for that from Allah on the Day of Judgement when anyone amongst jinn, men and birds drink from it” [Bukhari and Muslim]. Likewise He (sallAllahu 'alayhi wasallam) said “The best form of charity is giving someone water (to drink)” [Ahmad, An-Nasaa’i and Ibn Maajah].
