Amy's Story: I am so lucky that charities like Cancer Research Uk do what they do and keep our loved ones alive. Those of you that know me and my family will know that my mum Lindsay has suffered from Breast Cancer 3 times in the last 11 years.
her battle began when i was only 15 years old my mum was a full time healthy primary school teacher. Her cancer was discovered through a routine mammogram. The type of cancer tumour she had was so agressive that it had doubled in size in 2 weeks, and she was on the surgery table within days.
Throughout her long battle with the "BIG C" she has had 2 lumpectomys, her lynth glands removed, a Mastectomy and TRAM flap reconstruction using the abdominal muscle to create a new breast , radiotherapy sessions and medicianal drugs to help her survive. Last year another lump was dicoverd in her healthy breast and she went under the knife again, this time due to the previous surgery the same procedure could not take place. She underwent another Mastectomy and Dorsi Flap Reconstrustion which uses the muscle from the top of your back.
Throughout this horrible time the surgeons, doctors and staff that have helped have been truly insperational. But without the Research of how these amazing procedures work & the funding to keep mammogram's and breast care centres available we can keep our mums and loved ones alive. without charities like this things would be very different for me now.
My mum is a fighter and has managed to win her battle again.
Im sure that you know someone that has been affected in your lives, So please dig deep and donate now.
