The 2.6 Challenge is a simple and fun way for everyone to do their bit to help save the UKs charities.

Story

I have been involved in goalball, in numerous roles, all around the world, for many, many years!

As a PE teacher, firstly at Chorleywood College for girls (with little or no sight) and then New College Worcester, I introduced hundreds of visually impaired students to the sport. Additionally, over the years, I have delivered countless 'have a go' sessions to schools, colleges, universities, and community groups, etc.

At the other end of the scale, I have been fortunate to coach both the Great Britain Men's and Women's teams at major international tournaments including the Paralympic Games plus World and European Championships.

I am also a referee so regularly officiate at tournaments in the UK and overseas. Combined with this I deliver IBSA 'clinics' to help new officials qualify and progress and chair the Goalball UK Club and Competitions Committee.

Goalball is therefore something that is very close to my heart and why I have decided to support Goalball UK with a 2.6 challenge so that they can continue to do the fantastic work that they do.

During my lockdown clear-out, I found an indoor rower under the spare bed so I am challenging myself to complete 26 minutes every day for 26 days. If we are still inside after this then, who knows, I may keep going!

Save the UK's Charities General fundraising has been hit very hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of fundraising events have been cancelled and many charities, particularly smaller ones, are struggling to maintain services because of this huge reduction in income. This impacts all sectors of society from children to the elderly as well as the vital work in areas such as palliative care, serious diseases, mental health, housing support, food supplies and countless others that charities support.
