Edinburgh Marathon 2007 · 27 May 2007 ·

We are the largest charity dedicated to kidney research in the UK. Kidney disease ruins and destroys lives. Treatments are gruelling, relentless. There is no cure. We say this isn't good enough. We will transform kidney health. Kidney disease ends here.

Story

Update:

It's all over.  Edinburgh was freezing!  Watched the weather forecast deteriorate from Wednesday, then woke on Sunday at 6 to find it absolutely tipping it down.  Within minutes of arriving at the start, my trainers and hair were soaked. The organisers left us standing around for ages and despite an adequate warm-up, moving around and stretching, I still got very cold.  The rain thankfully eased and, apart from a few isolated downpours, proved no further trouble.  The biggest problem was at least 13 miles (approx 2 hours) along the coast running into a strong wind.  Despite my muscles being frozen stiff by mile 5, my left knee experiencing agonising pains and giving way and the awful wind, I managed to stay on track till mile 21 when I slammed into 'The Wall' - HARD!  After this, I got slower and my knee and stiff legs were wearing me down mentally. Nevertheless, I finished in an unofficial 4:47ish, a very tired and tearful girl!  Not overly happy with the time, but apparently the elite runners had battled with the wind too and their times were off target.  I guess I should be grateful I'm home in one piece, even if I'm very sore and every stair I climb is like a trip up Everest! Thanks to everyone who's sponsored me already.  It's not too late if you'd still like to donate! xxx

Hi and thank you for visiting my charity page.  I'm raising money for Kidney Research UK by running the Edinburgh Marathon in May 2007.  They're a national charity, but as they're based in Peterborough, I'm sure that if you're a Cambridge medic, many of your patients have been directly influenced by their work.

DID YOU KNOW:

That in East Anglia we currently have no facility for paediatric dialysis?

...Our children in renal failure have to travel all the way to London for treatment!!!

So, for the nearly 2.5 MILLION people suffering from chronic renal disease in the UK, please sponsor me to run the 26.2 miles around Edinburgh and help to save lives.

Thank you so so much for your generosity and support.  It'll be wonderful to know there are people behind me as the race reaches its toughest points.

Love,

Di  xxx
