Story

Hello everyone and thank you for visiting my JustGiving page!

I’ll be off on a community development project in Nicaragua for 10 weeks 2 July- 9 Sept 2013.

I will be volunteering as part of the International Citizen Service (ICS) programme, funded by the Department for International Development (DFIF) and run by some of the most respected names in international volunteering. ICS is the UK’s foremost global volunteering programme for young people, working overseas and making direct impact on poorer countries. I will be doing my ICS is a development programme which brings together young people aged 18-25 to fight poverty and make a difference where it is needed the most. I will be working alongside 6 volunteers from all over Nicaragua and 6 Brits supported by 2 team leaders, on a project that will be helping to tackle issues in order to accelerate the delivery of the Millennium Development Goals with regards to education, health, livelihoods, strengthening civil society and protecting the environment. ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help. I will be conducting surveys, writing and reading reports, charting information and running workshops as well as construction with the locals to see what really benefits tem

I will be living in the heart of the community as a group, I will have the opportunity to form deep friendships, exchange cultures, discuss development issues and develop key skills such as team-working, leadership, communication and problem solving. I am looking forward to giving back to the community and learning about other cultures through international development, above all through sustainable development and working side by side with the locals.  I am very excited to learn from the locals themselves in the community about their struggle, beliefs and needs. I want to dedicate myself to those marginalised and almost isolated communities in Nicaragua who have suffered turmoil due to political, social, economic and natural disasters, such as the earthquake of 1972.

MY GOAL IS TO RAISE £800 before I leave in order to support the amazing work which Raleigh International is involved with.

Fundraising deadline: 2 JUNE 2013
