It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Marguerite, one of our beloved former adoption donkeys who was on the scheme between 2005 and 2007. 

While she was only an adoption donkey for a short while she was one of the bright stars of The Donkey Sanctuary, representing us at county shows and ploughing competitions where she showed off her impeccable manners and determination to win a number of rosettes and prizes.

Born in 1996, and relinquished into our care at the age of three, she spent the last few years of her life enjoying the peace and quiet of the Sanctuary with a gentle group of donkeys at Shelter 3, overlooking the beautiful Devon countryside. After a short illness and a significant deterioration in her quality of life, our expert vet team made the heart breaking decision to gently put Marguerite to sleep. 
She was 19.

We will be organising a plaque to put on her shelter to commemorate the life of our dear friend and if you’d like to donate in memory.
