Story

Thank you all for visiting my fundraising page!

OHMYGOSH! I made it back alive - just about.

As scared as I was before I went, it could not prepare me for actually how hard that it was!

On the first day of the trek I managed to fall over a tree because I was playing with my camcorder (which caught the whole thing beautifully have to add) and so sprained my ankle (see pic).

After a days rest, and strapping my foot into my boots as tightly as poss, I was back in action.  Only to then have to be saved, Baywatch style, from the current of a waterfall.  I thought I'd had it!

You can take a look at some of the stunning shots on www.askraphael.com

When I started telling people about my trek across Brazil, a few couldn’t help but point out that it may actually be pretty tough: encountering dangerous creatures; sleeping on the ground and yes, having to wear sensible footwear.

Having thought long and hard, I shall grit my teeth and just invest in some seriously ugly shoes!

Jesting aside, my motivation for doing it came after my mum’s cousin discovered her breast cancer had returned after a long battle with the uncomfortable treatments and sadly, in March she passed away.  The most ironic thing was that the day we discovered Jane’s cancer was terminal, it was a year to the day that we discovered the same about my Nan .

It just proves that you can’t invent the things that life puts your way, either joyess or sad, and it made me realise that at any point, there may come a time when you won’t be able to fit in everything you want to do - for me, it’s the trek.  It’s amazing how something so destroying can spur you on to do something so life altering, not only for myself but those who benefit from the funds we raise.

So dig deep and help make a huge difference.  The website is simple, fast and totally secure enabling Breast Cancer care to receive the money directly and donating through this site is a great way to make the money go further because if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you! (Get something outta those tax people!)

Thank you so much in advance for all your support!

Lots of Love,

Donna.x.

Update: May - We'll I've finally got the boots! I was going to put a picture on but they really are too ugly.  Even though style wasn't an option, it still took me an hour and half to find the perfect boots.  Baring in mind they'd be on my feet for at least 8hrs a day, and protecting my feet from what ever may lurk in the depths; I wanted them to be right.  I even went as far has having custom inners soles made to fit my feet - for which I had to stand on hot plastercine for 5minutes! Super fun!

                              Fundraising Events Update

Thanks to all who attended the '...Picture it' Film Screening @ Pembroke Castle on Weds 31st May - we managed to raise £170 with the help of all the film contributers, the team at Pembroke Castle & some very dear friends.  I almost didn't make it after my appendix decided to make itself known but with the help of Debs, Ed, Soph, Lisa, Rupal, Simon, Rhian, Nats & my family (my mum came to look after me, ahhh) I was tootering about in no time.  (Even if I do look like an old woman!)

Thanks to everyone who took part in The Refectory Pub Quiz as well as the landlord Pat for letting me take over the pub and Chris for his marvelous fill ins and DJ'ing.

The Man Raffle went down a Treat.  HUGE thanks to all the guys who kindly (and bravely) donated their prizes to the charity.  We managed to raise nearly £200.  The night was a little embarrassing on my behalf after I drank too much wine and Lisa and I ended up treating Jamie's Bar as our own karaoke!  Sorry to damage your ears!

Ok, so the rounders was fun but not all that...busy.  Thanks to Duncan and Ed for making one of the hottest days of September rather sporty!

I need to thank a fair few people at Colts for their contribution in many ways - they'll be more to come too on the 18th November (after I've recovered from the Trek, that is).   Hopefuly with some fun raffle prizes, a guess that tune quiz and some random games...

.....Modest Angels have landed....x!
