Flora London Marathon 2007 · 22 April 2007 ·

Pioneering projects which relieve the suffering of children and foster tolerance, peace and understanding in areas of conflict and spearheading groundbreaking projects in Kosovo, South Africa & the Middle-East, aiming to create centres of excellence and models of best practice.

Story

Madman  (mæ·dmǽn). ME. [orig. two words.] One who is insane; a lunatic. Also, one who behave like a lunatic, a wildly foolish person.

For all those who have long suspected that I walk on the wrong side of that fine line separating sanity from utter madness, I think I may now have proved you right!

On behalf of the One to One Children's Fund, I have agreed to enter (and, by virtue of entry, to complete) the 2007 London Marathon.  As a 30 year old who participated in no form of exercise for the first 20 odd years of his life, this should be a really achievement.  But, if my mother could do it, so can I!

One to One helps children in countries across Africa , Europe and the Middle East.  Recent projects which it has undertaken include supporting the  Dora Nginza Hospital ’s Paediatric Outpatients and HIV/AIDS clinic in the East Cape and promoting  a conference to share best practice across Southern and  Central Africa in the delivery of healthcare treatment to children with HIV and AIDS.

In India , the charity is committed to rebuilding the  St George’s Primary  School in Allepey, as well as 5 other schools badly damaged by the Tsunami.    In Kosovo, One to One has funded counselling services for the children traumatised by recent conflict.

Closer to home, the charity has run interfaith projects with children to break down community divides through the use of culture and dramatic expression.

So, whilst the idea of my running the London Marathon may appear to be the onset of lunacy, it really is for a worthwhile and noble cause.  Please help me make sense of my madness, by joining me in my endeavours by sponsoring me in my challenge.  With your support spurring me on, I am sure that I shall go far (well, 26.21875 miles at any rate!).

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: One To One Children's Fund will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

I know that the London Marathon brings many requests for sponsorship, I do hope that you’ll consider mine and dig as deep as you can!

Many thanks for your support.

As ever

Daniel xx
