Story
When Ed was born in 2005 he was one of about 700 babies a year to be made sick in this country from a very common bacterium; Group B Strep. He developed a form of meningitis and had it not been for the amazing Sheffield Children's Hospital he would have died- they resuscitated him repeatedly in their intensive care for several days unit until antibiotics saved his life. Around 75 babies a year die and many more suffer life changing after effects.
We were very lucky and Ed has grown into an amazing lad and thanks to the advice from the charity GBSS Ellie was born safely in 2008. Many other families are not as lucky.
This condition is preventable but is still not routinely screened for in this country as it is in many other countries so we support Group B Strep Support's campaign to change this. We wish them well in their 20th anniversary year.
