Not everyone will be aware that behind that steely facade
was a man who loved animals! Any mutt shambling down Bourbon Street, he’d be
there petting it. On the few occasions we were able to prise Club Chelsea
tickets out of Mr Barnes’s hands I’d often find myself talking to myself as we
made our way to the ground. He’d be ten yards behind chatting to a mounted
policeman and vigorously stroking the horse’s nose and ears! And, of course, he
doted on Ruby, his whippet. Thank you for remembering him in this way.
