Story
The first event in my extended bi-athlon - the 112 mile cycle, has been completed and was in fact 116 miles (You can imagine the cursing when our milometers showed we should have finished). Managed to get through it on a diet of porridge and mars bars. Apart from the obvious life-long aversion I now have for porridge and mars bars, the only major complication I had was a requirement to carry a nice soft cushion around with me for the next few days.
Time was 9 hours including stops, which is about 8 1/2 more than I intend doing again for a long time.
Update - Monday 29th June
Well I managed to finish the mont blanc marathon on Sunday in 6 hrs and 16 mins which was an hour quicker than I thought I would do and put me in the first third, but still 2 hours behind the winner who presumably has two sets of lungs and steel legs.
Fred and Libby did the kids "mini-cross" on Saturday morning and wore their medals very proudly to school yesterday. They both want to go back next year to run again but I don't yet have the courage to tell them that I won't be joining them.
Weather on both days was glorious and so the views of the mountains were fantastic. That and the camaraderie of my fellow runners made for a really wonderful race, (apart from the last quarter which I found quite hard, with the final mile taking me just over 20 minutes). I am now happy to retire from marathon running!
