Story
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page for the Edinburgh Marathon 2007. Please dig deep and sponsor us online.
We're absolutely thrilled to let you know that we completed the Edinburgh marathon on Sunday 27th May in under 4 hours (3 hrs 58 mins and 40 secs!). A fantastic time for us both in challenging conditions! It was a very wet and windy run but an incredible experience which took us through some spectacular scenery. Linnea's sister (Andrea), our brother-in-law (Jason) and Morven were cheering us on with some family friends and we're so grateful for all the support we've received in the run up. Importantly, we're on target to raise more than £4,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and the knowledge of this kept us going when it felt tough on Sunday. Thank you again for all your support - it means so much to our family, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and other sufferers of this condition.
Why are we running the Edinburgh Marathon together?
We both enjoy the amazing sense of achievement that comes from completing mental and physical challenges. Running the Edinburgh marathon seemed like the perfect goal we could work towards together in 2007 and we're really excited about it!
Why are we running for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust?
We had just started our lengthy training schedule in February, when we received the distressing news that our darling niece, Morven, had been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at only 3 weeks old through a routine screening programme in Scotland.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease which affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food.
No one can tell how it will affect Morven in the future, but what we do know is that babies born now with the disease have a much better outlook for life than babies born with the disease 40 years ago. This is mainly thanks to organisations such as the Cystic Fibrosis Trust that funds medical and scientific research to develop a cure and provide effective treatments for Cystic Fibrosis. In addition they ensure appropriate clinical care and provide support to those affected with the disease as well as their families.
As we firmly believe that others should benefit from our endeavours and we want to do everything we can to help Morven and those affected by the disease, we have chosen to run the Edinburgh Marathon on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
You can make a real difference....
Please help us raise money to enable the Cystic Fibrosis Trust to fund research and provide support to make a huge difference to the lives of all the people who suffer from the disease and to help them succeed in their own personal challenges.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity.
Edwin and Linnéa.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Cystic Fibrosis Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support, we will let you know how we get on!
