In 2019, I will be running the London Marathon to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Cancer has touched all our lives and my motivation to run the 26 miles has everything to do with below:
Earlier this year, my Dad noticed a small lump on his neck. Biopsies, CT scans and MRI scans later, the results showed that it was in fact, cancer. This came as a devastating shock to my family, as he had already beat cancer 20 years previous, so just over a week later he underwent major surgery and had a neck dissection to remove 45 lymph nodes throughout the 6 and a half hour surgery. Fortunately of the 45 removed, only a few of lymphs were cancerous and he is now officially cancer free. Throughout those months, my dad was offered amazing support from Macmillan nurses during an extremely hard time. I want to raise as much money as possible so that other families can receive the same support that mine did.
Another huge motivation for me to raise money for Macmillan is because of Emma. Emma was one of my Mum's best friends and was one of the loveliest ladies that you could meet.
In January 2017, Emma was diagnosed with breast cancer and only 2 weeks later, it was found that the cancer had spread to her lymphs, lungs, bones and liver. Very sadly, Emma's battle with cancer ended and she passed away in May last year leaving her daughter Millie-Joy at 5 without her Mum.
Throughout Emma's diagnosis, she spent a lot of time at the Macmillan Horizon Centre in Brighton. The Horizon Centre provides support for those who have cancer and those who have been affected by cancer. They offer support in the form of reflexology, cooking classes, yoga etc and just somewhere to relax. Centres like the Horizon rely heavily on donations and if any of the money I raise can make it that bit easier for someone going through cancer, then running 26 miles will definitely be worth it!
If you are able to donate even the smallest amount then it would really help and Macmillan and I would be so grateful. Please donate if you can.
Thank-you so much.
