Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Earlier this year, shortly after losing my Grandmother to Pancreatic Cancer (who had also suffered a stroke a few years back during an operation), I lost my Granddad to a stroke. He unfortunately succumbed to the effects of the stroke. Whilst this was going on, the wonderful Nurses and Doctors at Ysbyty Gwynedd (Prysor Ward) did everything they could to ensure he was as comfortable as possible. As well as giving my dad and I blankets etc so we could stay the night.

It was only a year or so ago I was in this same ward with my Nain after she suffered a major stroke, who at first we didn't know how she was going to respond but with help and her determination she is doing so well. One strong lady. I recognised some of the nurses and I told them how well my Nain was doing as they don't get to see or hear how their patients are doing once they leave for rehabilitation.

Back to my Granddad. I genuinely think this is one of the hardest things I've had to do so far in my life. My Granddad was a great man, so intelligent, and would literally speak to anyone. He had such a want to know all about the world and peoples experiences. At the age of 81 he was still riding motorcycles, frequently, making sure he watched all the bike racing, such as Motogp, WSBK, British Superbikes as well as the F1. He loved it. I've always said how I hope I am as active as him when I reach that age, such an inspiration. Whilst he was in hospital I was researching strokes, trying to find out as much information as I could. So many people, of all ages, are affected by strokes, and I firmly believe that the more we get to know about them, the more chance we have of surviving and a greater chance of rehabilitation. I've been ever so blessed with my grandparents and for stroke survivors, carers, families and friends, this is for you.

Thank you for your time, I could go on forever, but all your support is appreciated.

Keep Smiling :)
