I am running my first 10k in aid of Fibromyalgia Action UK, a charity which is run by hard working volunteers, many of whom suffer from fibromyalgia. The charity aims to encourage NHS and other funding sources for new research projects, as very little is known about the illness and sufferers are told there is no cause or cure. FMA UK does incredibly important work to improve the lives of people with fibromyalgia by increasing awareness of the condition throughout the UK, and also by increasing access to treatments. 

My mum suddenly began suffering from fibro about 5 years ago, and was in and out of hospital for months. She was fit and healthy, and the condition has vastly affected the way she can live her life. The worst part is that looking at her, you would have no idea she is ill - she has never given up. Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition of widespread paid and fatigue and extremely difficult to diagnose. My mum was tested for every illness known and it was extremely scary to not know what she was suffering from or how to help. Fortunately my mum is very, very strong and has continued to be so in order to make life for me and my sister as normal as possible. But, she may live with chronic pain for the rest of her life and it’s so unfair that she will always have to be on pain relieving medication. My mum loved to go to the gym, run, and work without suffering, and now she can’t do so. 

I hope that the money I raise for FMA UK will help to reduce my mum’s pain in the future, and that the research funded may hopefully help to find a cure. Not everyone is as strong as my mum, and some sufferers can not hold down a job or enjoy a social life, and I hope that FMA UK can help them too.
