Story

Dear Friends / Family / Supporters.

18 months ago Jonno and I were enjoying a lemonade one hot afternoon and decided to take part in the most wacky, craziest, rally the world can offer; the Mongolian Rally.

Started in 2000, the Mongolian rally has raised millions of pounds for charity and thousands of people have travelled from London / Spain and Italy to Mongolia in all manner of vehicles.

The rules state that the vehicle must be no more than 1200cc, although there is special dispensation for a public service vehicle, hence we will be driving an fully functional ex london ambulance to Mongolia and donating it to the citizens of Ulaan Baatar upon arrival.

We are raising money for a wonderful charity, the Christina Noble Children's Foundation, which has programmes in Vietnam and Mongolia. They seek to protect children at risk of economic and sexual exploitation, while ensuring these children in need have access to basic care and educational opportunities. http://www.cncf.org

Our route takes us through 17 countries, across Europe, down the Croatian coast through Greece into Turkey, under the Black and Caspian seas through Iran and the "Stahns", across Russia and down to our destination, Mongolia some 12,000 miles later.

Fundraising events have included "pin the fur on the yak" day at Wetherby School and the EDF party. The boys wrote messages to the children of the CNCF on cardboard  which were backed with fake fur. We pinned 244 fur messages onto a large wooden yak, which will accompany us on our journey.

On Saturday the 17th July we will be holding our leaving party, an evening of music and revelry in London for all our friends and colleages, with the official Mongol Rally send off a week later from Goodwood.

The theme for the journey is emergency disco relief, an attempt to lighten any potential serious moments at borders crossings. The ambulance is fitted with a disco ball and flashing led lights and we hope to spread some fun and humour on our journey.
