Story
Emily Swain - age 10
Mummy told me all about the British Heart Foundation and how they raise money to help research heart conditions. Mummy and I have a rare heart condition that causes our heart to stop beating. We both have pacemakers and will have them for the rest of our lives.
I was scared when I had my surgery and I didn't like the idea of the pacemaker but the doctors and nurses were really kind and they helped me to understand all the things I can and can't do. It's quite sad to be told you can't do lots of fun things like gymnastics, monkey bars and tennis when you are 9 but I've found I'm really good at all sorts of new things now that I might not have tried before.
The Royal Brompton Hospital take care of us and they are doing lots of tests to try and work out why our hearts stop. I hope they work out what is wrong as it would be good to know why it happens so that we can help other members of our family and maybe even find a cure :)
I have decided to raise as much money as I can by doing these things:
- Dress in red day (31st Jan) at Theatre Fun in return for a donation
- Street Party with tea, cakes and games and everyone can watch me get RED GOOOOOO POURED ALL OVER MY HEAD!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
- Dress in red day (6th Feb) in return for a donation
- Lots of cake sales (made by me and mummy)
- I'm sewing red heart key rings to sell
- I'm making red friendship loom bands
- The BHF are allowing me to sell pin badges
- I've spent some of my Christmas money on raffle prizes for a raffle at school and Theatre Fun
- I will keep adding more ideas as I come up with them.
