Story
I grew up as an LGBTQ+ child, in an LGBTQ+ friendly household and yet I couldn't come to terms with who I really was until years later, when I was surrounded by other lesbian women at university. My own journey has made me realise the importance of having a group of LGBTQ+ friends, and I want to contribute as much as I can towards ensuring that young people have access to welcoming and inclusive LGBTQ+ spaces, where they can safely explore who they are.
I believe that every young person should be able to feel proud of who they are and the work of The Proud Trust has filled me with hope for future generations of LGBTQ+ youngsters. I hope that my small contribution allows them to continue their amazing work and I'm so grateful for all the good they are already doing (and the killer vegan breakfast they serve in the cafe).
Training for this run has also proved a huge help in my ongoing recovery from PTSD, as I go through intensive trauma therapy. I used to roll my eyes at people who said things like "I love working out"/"Running is awesome!" but now I've become one of those weirdos. I have my friend Millie to thank for that *waves in the general direction of Dubai*.
