L'Etape du Tour · 15 November 2005

Over 100,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

The Etape du Tour is a stage of the Tour de France open to the general public. Each year around 8500 people from all over the world take part. This years stage is Stage 15 of Le Tour de France, a grueling 187km ride from Gap to the top of l'Alpe d'Huez, one of the Tour de France's most famous climbs. We will be riding in the Etape for the first time and will be raising money for the Aberdeen Branch of the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society Scotland.

MS is the most common neurological disorder diagnosed amongst young adults. It affects the central nervous system, which is made up of the brain and the spinal cord. It is usually diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40 years. There is an estimated 10,500 people with MS in Scotland- there are more people with MS in Scotland per capita than anywhere else in the world.

The MS Society
is the largest charity for people affected by Multiple Sclerosis. We are raising money for our local branch: The Aberdeen MS Stuart Resource Centre (http://www.ms-aberdeen.org.uk/). The Centre desperately requires funding in order to continue its valuable work of providing i
nformation and advice, sessions for people who are recently diagnosed, support for individuals and their families, emotional support through counseling and opportunities to meet others with MS. The MS Society also funds MS research, runs a holiday respite centre, provides grants, and education and training on MS. It produces numerous publications on MS and runs a freephone specialist telephone support service.
