Swimathon 2018 · 27 April 2018 to 29 April 2018 ·

A challenge for everyone. A swim for all. In its 30 year history, Swimathon has raised over £48million for its charity partners – help us hit £50million in 2018!

Story

Where do we start?  Unfortunately our lovely family has been too widely affected by this horrible, grotesque disease so we are raising some money so Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie can continue with their wonderful work researching and supporting people who unfortunately need so much help.

We decided to do this some weeks ago but are using today (8th Feb) to promote our Just giving page as it is 10 years today we sadly lost Dave (Cred's dad/Emma's Grampy).

The 29th April is our chosen date to swim 5k as this date marks Eileen's birthday (Emma's mum/Cred's sister), who fought non hodgkins lymphoma and we lost nearly 6 years ago.  It is also the anniversary of Sian's passing (Emma's Aunty/Cred's sister) who lost her battle with childhood leukemia on this date, which deprived us of ever even meeting her!

We will also be swimming in memory of our Uncle Graham.

Cred has also benefited from the work Cancer Research UK do and Emma's husband Jon has been in remission for just over 12 months.

Hopefully we have helped you understand how widely our family has been affected by this awful disease.  We are sure we don't stand alone and you and your loved ones have no doubt been affected in some way too.

Now we have (intentionally!) tugged on your heart strings, and hopefully your purse strings, get those cards out and donate, donate, donate.  We get a free towel each if we reach £300!!

On your marks.... Swimathon is back in 2018!

Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie are teaming up and heading down to the pool for Swimathon 2018 – thousands of swimmers, two great causes, one big charity challenge.

Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research, will be involved in Swimathon for the first time.

Marie Curie, the UK’s leading charity for people with any terminal illness and their families, has been Swimathon's charity partner ten times since it launched in 1986 and has raised over £17 million for the charity through the event during that time.

By taking part in the world’s biggest fundraising swimming event you will be fundraising for two incredible causes.

A challenge for everyone. A #SwimForAll
