RACHELS STORY:

Rachel was diagnosed at the Freeman Hospital with diolated cardiomyopathy (heart failure) in January 2012.

This was such a shock as she had been a fit well child. The doctors and all the staff on ward 23 tried to contain this but every day they had to increase her IVs and medication and there came a point on the 1st of Feruary when they felt there was nothing else they could do. So they placed Rachels name on the heart transplant list. As you can imagine our world fell about, but with the support and guidance of the staff we started to come to terms with this.

On Wednesday the 9th Rachel took a turn for the worse and was taken to PICU and vetilated. Luckily for her on Friday the 10th February a suitable donor was found and Rachel received her gift of life and had her transplant.

Without the support and dedication of the staff on ward 23 and the excellent surgeons and doctors things may have been different.
