For those of you who do not know the details, I am off to South Africa in January 2010 with SPW for 10 months living in a rural community with a host family as the only international person. SPW volunteers work in rural areas of the Eastern Cape which are the traditional heart-lands of the Xhosa people. SPW focus on rural communities as these are among the most disadvantaged in South Africa, plighted with HIV/AIDS and other STIs. These communities are typically overlooked by larger organisations and NGO's and therefore have become the focus of the hard work carried out by all those at SPW. The primary objective of the programme is to provide access to essential health information, basic services and promotion of healthy lifestyles in order to make a change.

But this cannot happen without you! I have a target of £900 to raise for SPW by November 2009. This money goes towards setting up facilities and carrying out community works.
