Story

After a Covid pause:

May 2022 - David smashes his first triathlon

Feb 2019 Glitter Ball, Connaught Rooms, London

Sept 2018 - eeeeek! Why did I agree to do the GNR again? Running with all 3 daughters - they will probably get rather cross & leave me behind

October 2017 - Masquerade Ball, London

May 2017 - good luck to John & friends in the Big Bike Ride :-)

September 2016 - well done Suzanne - another GNR under her belt :-)

August2015 - <

So far in 2015 - we had a very successful Bollywood Ball (probably my favourite so far just for the effort people went to to dress up) with real Bhangra dancers. Then David & John joined Jonny G, Peter & Gail to do the Big Bike Ride in June ... well done David :-).

2014 -what didn't we do? John & pals completed the first Wetherby to Wetherby Big Bike Ride, we had our most successful Ball yet, and various members of the family ran the GNR, London marathon and other terribly energetic things. Endresult - we broke through the £10,000 barrier :-)

2013 began quietly so John kick-started us all by completing the BTRS Wetherby - Scarborough bike ride (63 miles) on 18th May with rugby pals Pete Crane & Andy Leatham. Then off with the cycle shorts and on with the hiking boots to attempt the Yorkshire Three Peaks on 22nd June.

9th December 2012 - David survived a bungee jump in Newcastle  - well done from all the family xxx

In November 2012 we hosted a Great British Ball at the Met hotel, Leeds. 152 friends & family joined us for a wonderful evening and  raised around £2750. We are so grateful to the people that supported us on the night, all the generous souls who donated some fantastic prizes (everyone wanted the Alexander McQueen scarf) and to Rachel's employer Barclays Bank who match-funded to the tune of £750. Wow. And just to finish the night off perfectly, Suzanne and Steven got engaged.

September 2011 - a busy month for Lyn as she took VR and colleagues donated to this page in lieu of a leaving present. Thank you all - I am really going to miss you all but it had to be done! Also the (very tasteful) calendar was launched on Sept 11th and can be ordered online

Andrea's Gift Ball 2011 ... what a great night. Everyone seemed to have a ball (!!!), the food & entertainment was excellent and with money still coming in, the amount raised on the night currently stands at £1355.60. Well done girls. A special thank you to Mary and Raminder who both made donations even though they couldn't join us xx

Since Lyn's mum died (see http://www.andreasgift.org.uk/joan_wells.html for her story) supporting Andrea's Gift has become a whole-family affair. In April 2008, we held the second annual 'Andrea's Ball' and on the 10th May John & David completed the Big Bike Ride from Wetherby to Scarborough .. not sure whether David will ever want to sit on a bike again but they raised £370 in the process! Not to be left out, Richard (Grandpa) offered his services as a marshall and Lyn followed behind them all in a car  ...just in case.

At the end of May, Lyn & John celebrated their Silver Wedding and asked guests to donate to Andrea's Gift rather than buy gifts. With over 100 friends & family in one place, another £465 was added to the pot. When Lyn changed job in August to head up the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Team, colleagues at Education Leeds donated the leaving collection to Andrea's gift - a lovely gesture very much appreciated.

Following Suzanne's success in the Great North Run 2007, Rachel & Lyn joined her in 2008 - and both sisters were determined to come out on top. Rachel had been more disciplined with the training regime and completed in a creditable 2h 15 - Suzanne and mum were some way behind but finished together  in 2h50-ish. The vicious rumour that they walked is unjust!

The activities don't stop in 2009; our Glitter Ball on 6th February was another sell-out event, mostly due to Julie-Anne's impressive sales technique, and raised £1570 with the help of match-funding from Rachel's employers (Barclays). Lyn is preparing for the Great North Swim (is Lake Windermere cold?) in September and races Suzanne again in the GNR in the autumn, even though both swore never to do it again! Not to be outdone, John & David are ready for a repeat of the Wetherby to Scarborough Bike Ride with friends Peter & Gail ... while Grandpa continues to support us all and do his own fundraising too!
