Story
Thank you all for taking the time to read this.
At the heart of my story is an overwhelming desire to raise awareness of the tragedy of SUICIDE! And the devastating result of mental illness.
My first experience of suicide was around 13 years ago, when two of my uncles took their own lives within one week of each other.
Words cannot express the deep and devastating impact this loss had on our family members. One uncle was a farmer and one was a chef, and their loss was deeply felt by their colleagues, friends and community, and words are simply too hard to find to express this tragic loss of life.
However, the worst loss I suffered was when my partner of 18 years took his own life in October 2018. He left me and our son aged six. He was a very talented MCA Pastry Chef he loved what he did and was passionate about his profession.
This event was so horrendous and devastating and is still very fresh in our minds, especially to our son who talks of his father every day. The worst thing is not knowing WHY! I really believed that our life was good and we were very happy.
So, I have decided that the only way to try to combat the destruction caused by suicide, is to make everyone more aware of Mental Health, especially men, as the figures for death from suicide continue to rise.
The way I am able to start fund raising is by running.
I had never run before like this, and now I have done 5Km and 10Km and am currently training for a half marathon, leading to the ultra challenge this year of 100km in September.
For me, it’s about being outside and exercising, I feel running helps me to keep fit in body and in mind. But any exercise can give you the same effect.
By giving a donation through Just Giving to Hospitality Action , you will be helping to give support to people who really need it who are working in the Hospitality industry. We want to give our colleagues the support they need whilst working in a very difficult industry, before a problem escalates untreated or un-noticed, and the main way is to talk about any problems which may be negatively affecting their state of mind.
I want to give a very big thank you to you all for helping me to raise the funds needed to be able to stop another life being needlessly lost!
