We raise awareness and help fund research to improve the lives of people with APS

Story

In 2008, my uncle at the age of 29, suffered a near fatal heart attack - a result of blood clots forming in his left ventricle and the major artery leading to the heart. A few days after he suffered the heart attack, he was diagnosed with Hughes Syndrome by the specialist unit at St Thomas's HospitalHughes Syndrome, also known medically as the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disorder which can present life threatening symptoms, including strokes and thrombosis. Up to 20% of young people (under 45) who have a heart attack have antiphospholipid antibodies.

Having wanted to run a marathon in my lifetime, I thought I'd combine it with helping Hughes Syndrome to raise funds to continue vital research into the causes, effects and treatments of the disease, as well as providing support for patients and increasing medical and public knowledge of Hughes Syndrome.

Every donation no matter how little will mean a lot my family (especially my uncle) and I, and of course Hughes Syndrome will be extremely delighted with all your generous donations. Thanks for your kindliness donations (and don't forget gift aid!)

Jack :)
