Story
All of us here at Fat Giraffe would like to thank you for visiting our JustGiving page and for your kind donations.
This July we are taking on the HUGE challenge of completing The National Three Peaks challenge to raise money for our chosen charity - Dementia UK. The National Three Peaks Challenge sees us take on the highest mountain in Scotland (Ben Nevis), the highest mountain in England (Scarfell Pike) and then the highest mountain in Wales (Snowdon) all in 24 hours. There is going to be blood, sweat, tears, aches, pains and probably many many blisters, but we are proud to be taking on this challenge and hoping to raise a huge £5,000 for Dementia UK. We will start Ben Nevis on the evening of Saturday 4th July and complete the challenge on Sunday 5th July; hopefully within the 24 hour limit!
Fat Giraffe is a retail business and we sell handbags, jewellery, scarves, purses and other hair and fashion accessories. More importantly though we are a family run business and are all involved in every single one of our stores in a very hands on manner. This is the main reason why we chose to support Dementia UK- it is a charity very close to our whole family's hearts after loosing our nan in 2009 who suffered for over 10 years with dementia. Dementia is known as the 'silent killer' and it is estimated that there are 850,000 people in the UK with dementia, with that figure set to rise to 1,000,000 by 2025. Anyone with any experiences of dementia will know what an awful disease this is to deal with both for the patient and also for the family who are left to care for them. It is for this reason that we are proud to support Dementia UK; they offer a service of nurses called Admiral nurses who provide specialist care for those with Dementia and also provide families with support. Admiral nurses are currently available in some areas but unfortunately not all - we are hoping our target of £5,000 will help make admiral nurses more readily available. We know ourselves that unfortunately the care available for our nan was poor at best and we would love to see that level improve. Please help us and donate what you can to our cause. So far our team of climbers consists of:
Andy and Katie Stewart - family members heading the challenge along with Alfie the dog!
Toni Freeborn from our Solihull branch
Emily Sampson from our Solihull branch
Clare Robinson from our Perry Barr branch
Kayleigh Williams from our Redditch branch
Nicola Cowley from our Redditch branch
Molly McGrath from our Northampton branch
Charley Gee from our Northampton branch
And not forgetting Maureen and Plunket Stewart who are designated drivers for the challenge and responsible for getting us from peak to peak. If you want to follow progress and updates of the challenge follow us on facebook at www.facebook.com/fatgiraffeltd.
