David's London To Brighton Challenge page

London To Brighton Challenge · 24 May 2014
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving Page.
A wise man, well a slightly diminutive man at work, once said they'd consider 50 odd miles a pretty long drive!
On that basis I guess walking from London to Brighton (some 100km, or 62 Miles for those of you like me who still use 'old money') could be considered to be a pretty long stroll and possibly verging on a little nuts!
That's right, I David Cherrill, a slightly fat man not exactly known for my levels of fitness, am taking part in a London to Brighton walk of 100km!
Full details on the event, should you wish to read more about the punishment in store for me, can be found here:

According to the organisers, last year's challenge had a 23% failure rate.....that's almost 1 in 4 people NOT completing the full distance......OK feeling a little more nervous now!
The reason I am attempting to put myself through this punishment is to raise money for Shine (Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Information Networking Equality) as Aurelia was born with Hydrocephalus, although not diagnosed until she was 4 months old.
This is a very little known charity in the grand scheme of things and as such people who could benefit from their wealth of knowledge often miss out. As the majority of new sufferers are diagnosed in utero it is vital that new parents are given as much information as possible in light of diagnosis. Our own experience showed it is easy to be given a diagnosis by paediatricians but they could not explain to us what the future held for Aurelia, would she walk and talk, would she be able to lead a normal life and asking Dr Google was probably one of the worst decisions of my life.
This is where Shine stepped in, providing us with detailed information about surgery options, steps you can take to help post operatively to aid recovery and things to expect as your child gets older. All this meaning that when we did meet Aurelia's surgeon we actually felt prepared to make a decision about brain surgery (in brain surgery terms a shunt is the surgeons bread and butter).
These resources and on going support available through Shine have proved invaluable to us, so I feel I really need to do my part to help raise awareness.
So to plagerise a large food selling chain, "Every Little Helps!"
Please, please, please help me to acheive my goal by donating whatever you can to the cause.
Thank you.
