As many of you may or may not know, I suffer from Cystic Fibrosis (CF). CF is caused by a single faulty gene that controls the movement of salt in the body. In people with CF, the internal organs become clogged with thick, sticky mucus resulting in infections and inflammation making it hard to breathe and digest food.

CF is one of the UK's most common life-threatening inherited diseases affecting over 8,500 people in the UK. Over two million people in the UK carry the faulty gene, this is around 1 in 25 of the UK population. To put that into perspective, in every school class in the UK there will be at leat 1 and sometimes 2 carriers of the faulty gene. Each week, five babies are born with CF and around half of the CF population can expect to live over 38 years, although improvements in treatments mean a baby born today could expect to live even longer.

As you can imagine the charity has become something I am very passionate about, there have been few low times but as in life there have also been high's. Fortunately my condition is controlled and I can live a normal life, this due to hard work from myself and my doctors, experience and a lot of nagging! If it wasn't for the hard work and developments made in research and treatment by The CF Trust my life and that of many others would not be what it is today!
