The Maxifuel Big South Swim Challenge 10k - Thames Open Water Swim Series 2012 · 8 September 2012

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

Update: Horrendous conditions in the Royal Victoria Dock on Saturday. All swimmers added about 20% on to their expected times, so I finished in a humble 38:44. The good news is, that I'm now off to the Great East Swim on Saturday 16th June to try to smash my one mile personal best!

Don't forget that in addition to the Olympic and Paralympic swimming in 2012, there are some slightly more humble swimmers, like myself, taking on various outdoor aquatic challenges.

My 2012 calendar looks like this:

The British Gas Great London Swim, Saturday 26th May - A one mile swim in The Royal Victoria Dock.

The Speedo Open Water Swim Series Hampton Court, Sunday 15th July - A 2.25 mile swim in The Thames from Hampton Court to Kingston Bridge. This is my favourite.

The Maxifuel Big South Swim Challenge 10k, Saturday 8th September - This is the main event. 10k "Swimmers' Marathon" at Bray Lake, hopefully followed by lunch at The Fat Duck.

I have chosen http://www.dementiauk.org/ for very personal reasons. With our aging population, sufferers of various types of dementia will become more numerous, so this is an opportune time to dig deep and support just one of the many dementia related charities.

Thank you,

Fiona.
