Fiona's Running the London Marathon

Virgin Money London Marathon 2016 · 24 April 2016 ·
Yes you are reading this right. This is the year I'm pushing my body more than I ever have and attempting to get myself round that 26.2 mile course.
Insert all the crying with laughter emojis.
"Why on earth are you doing that?!" you're probably asking.
I first applied for a place three years ago whilst sat in a chemo ward with my Mum. Her first session of many, she didn't want me to come, and that was the thing with Mum, she never wanted to put anyone out. So me being me I got the train down from London and turned up unannounced to surprise her, and the smile on her face said it all when I walked in. We sat and held hands so tightly for hours, the fear and worry of the battle ahead just hanging silently in the air. It was the day the marathon ballot went live and I sat there looking around feeling so helpless, so there and then I filled in the online application form.
Its months before you hear whether you've got in or not, and sadly in that time we lost Mum. I didn't get the chance to tell her that I didn't get a place, so vowed to myself I'd apply until I got in. To do it for her, for that smile. Three unsuccessful applications later I applied for a charity place and am proud to be a part of Team Macmillan 2016!
So as if training for a marathon wasn't hard enough, I need to also raise a tidy £2000! Anything you can give will be a massive help, motivating me through the training schedule and pushing me through the inevitable pain on the day. I know too many people that have lost loved ones to cancer so this for them, for those still fighting and for my shining star Mum.
Big Love. And even bigger Thanks.
Xx
