Please give what you can and/or come to The Maze on Thursday 21st December for live music from Izzy Carlin, Matt Humphries, Rielly Newbold, Alice Short, the Harry Smith Quintet & some special guests. It's only £5 on the door (16+) from 7pm. Thanks to all the musicians, to The Maze and to the ONs' Society for their kind sponsorship.
Nick Lawford of Nottingham University Hospitals Charity writes:
"The Nottingham Renal & Transplant Unit serves a population of approximately one million people, with patients coming from most of Nottinghamshire but also parts of Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. The unit, based at Nottingham City Hospital, has 40 dialysis stations with patients currently attending three times a week for four hours at a time. Some patients receiving dialysis treatment will be waiting for a kidney transplant, while for those unable to have a transplant they will require on-going dialysis treatment.
Donations to Nottingham Hospitals Charity help us purchase items that improve the environment on the Renal and Transplant Unit for patients, such as colourful artwork and more comfortable waiting areas, and information packs and DVDs that help explain treatments. Donations also fund medical equipment such as blood pressure monitoring devices and new dialysis chairs, to help us give the best and most timely care possible. We have also funded creative activities for patients, to help transform dialysis from a potentially challenging experience to a positive and productive one.
Currently we are raising money to fund more televisions for the Renal & Transplant Unit, to help pass the time and distract patients from treatment. At the moment we have only 10 televisions between 40 patients. We would love to have more, as well as interactive activities like iPads, which will have such a positive impact on patients. These important enhancements to the service go over and above the NHS provision, and have such a positive impact on patients."
