Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!

We are Mark, Simon and Dee and we are taking part in the Rickshaw Run Indonesia; a 3,500km odessey, through the sweaty jungles and arduous mountain tracks across the Indonesian archipelago in the smallest, least practical vehicle in Asia - the TukTuk AKA a glorified lawnmower.

We start on the 7th of October.

There's no guarantee of us making it to the finish line, no set route and no back-up. It's just us, half a horse power of engineering genius and two weeks (or more) facing every obstacle Indonesia can put in our way.

We are doing it for fun ostensibly - don't want anyone to be under any illusions - but the point of the trip is to give something back and have a positive impact in the regions that our trip goes through - and the projects are good.

We are raising money for 2 charities - "Birdlife International" and "Just a Drop" (which this page is for). Just a Drop is a water-aid charity which aims to reduce child mortality in developing countries caused by polluted water diseases like dysentery, cholera and diarrhoea - so not just limited to Indonesia, but world wide. Just a Drop works on the belief that being healthier, people can take charge of their very own lives through local agriculture, employment and education. In doing so, their overall pride and sense of wellbeing is restored.

We'll be posting updates of the various and numerous shenanigans that will undoubtedly be going on throughout the trip on our website at : http://www.franksumatra.com and on our Twitter feed : http://www.twitter.com/frank_sumatra

Our team name is 'Frank Sumatra' -  get it ? ....

If you want to get more of a feeling for what our trip will be like - we did something similar across India in 2009 and made it into a short film which you can watch here: http://vimeo.com/14965453
