Story
So, i got into the marathon.....and that was the easy part - now the hard part begins (for me, it's 26.2 miles).....if you could see your way to clicking a few buttons and sponsoring me, that would be great!
For those who don't already know, I'm running for MND, because my dad died from this in 1998. It was a very short time from diagnosis until he died, and a hard time for all around him. So any money you can donate to the MND association will be much appreciated.
Training has been a bit of a mixed bag. October wasn't really a month for running, and i ended up tearing the Roto-Cuff ligament in my shoulder whilst playing rugby (losing to Chobham 36-0). I did win man of the match though. The A&E physio said it was no excuse to not go running, so training proper starts in november.
November went well, December, it was christmas and i think i spent more time drinking than running! January would have been the turning of a new leaf - but i got man flu, and walking up the stairs was hard work. February started and it snowed, although i still did a fair amount of training in the snow, mud and sleet.
10 weeks to go - i better up the pace
March was a much improved month, up to over 30miles a week, getting some good longer distance runs in. Had a hard week last week 30miles in the week, then rugby on saturday (The Mighty Mighty Haslemere beating Reigate 10-7, even though the myopic ref disallowed my try for an alleged forward pass!), followed by dancing til the early hours, and a 20miler on sunday morning (plus the clocks went forward on me), feeling a bit more confident now.
only 4 weeks to go
easter holidays - spent some time running in the lake district, hills and sheep, hills and sheep!
shock news... is that i've given up alcohol for the month prior to the marathon! This has come as a surprise to me too, cementing the fact that i want to do this to the best of my ability. any sponsership that includes a pledge of a post race pint for me will be gratefully received!
2 weeks to go now, starting to taper...
4 days to go - just been on my last training run (a fast 4 miler in 28mins), all i need to do now is sit back, relax, eat pasta and drink water. fund raising is going well too, up to £899 now - thanks to you guys :-)
thank you so much for any money you have sponsored me, check back later or after the 26th april for updates...
thanks, fred
