10,000 steps every day for 4 weeks to fundraise for Yemen crisis · 19 June 2020

Campaign by Islamic Relief (RCN 328158)
With the ongoing conflict in Yemen already one of the poorest countries in the region over 20 million people don't know where their next meal will come from. A country crippled by conflict is sadly now on the brink of famine.

Story

We are a group of small social media influencers who have decided to come together to fundraise for a cause which we all feel very strongly about. Starting from Monday 22nd June, we are each going to be walking/running 10,000 steps every day for 4 weeks in order to raise money for the Islamic Relief's Yemen Emergency Appeal. We will be posting regular daily updates of our challenge on our Instagram stories, as well as here on our fundraising page. Please donate anything you can - every pound makes a difference.

Yemen is currently facing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. There is an ongoing civil war in the country which began in 2011, and over 100,000 people have now died as a direct result of the conflict. The impact of war has since led to the world's worst famine, a burden which lies heaviest on the shoulders of young children. Yemenis have also been facing a major cholera epidemic, and now covid-19 too.

  • With families facing ongoing armed conflict, displacement, disease and economic decline, an estimated 24 million people (82% of population) are now in need of humanitarian aid to survive - a figure so high that it is in fact the highest across the globe.
  • Yemen now officially hosts the worlds largest human-induced food security crisis.
  • Families and communities have been torn apart and left without even the most basic of living essentials:- 19.7 million people need basic healthcare- Almost 18 million people are in need of water and sanitation facilities- Over 3 million people have been left displaced by conflict.
  • An estimate by UNICEF suggests that one child dies every 10 minutes in Yemen as a result of this crisis
  • As of March 2020 an estimated 2 million children under the age of 5 suffer from acute malnutrition and are in need of treatment
