What is #1000Mountains?
Starting in May 2022 I want to climb 1000 mountains mainly in the UK with my dog Bear. Having completed my #365DaysOfAction challenge in May 2021 I want to now raise £100,000 for Sarcoma UK. For the purposes of my challenge a mountain is defined as 600m in elevation.
Who Am I?
My name is Jo White. 55 year old husband, father and cancer fighter. Having survived cancer once I have been told I now have a new GIST tumour which is attached to my aorta behind my bladder. Having had a few body parts removed in 2014 I have largely been on Chemotherapy tablets since to keep the cancer at bay in my liver. This new GIST tumour is not responding to my current chemotherapy treatment. Having been told they could not operate due to the location of the tumour I have been treated with SABR Radiotherapy at Genesis Care in Oxford.
Why Am I Doing The Challenge?
I am a family man with two grown up sons who I am immensely proud of and my wonderful wife who has supported me through thick and thin. Work-wise I like to think of myself as an Adventure Training Instructor. Since 1998 I have worked mainly with the Military as a Civilian Instructor (I01) improving peoples fitness and to rehabilitate both Civilian and Military personnel after injury.
I want to create awareness that exercise in the great outdoors will massively help you fight things that life chucks in your way. Anything in life is possible both physically and mentally. You have just got to keep going for as long as you can whilst you can. The UK is blessed with a fantastic landscape, far more than most of us take for granted. I want to encourage people to fight for a cause close to their heart and to put back something for all the great doctors, nurses and medical professionals that have kept me alive since 2014. Sarcoma UK is a small and relatively unknown cancer charity who do great work not just in research but the support of sarcoma cancer patients in the UK.
