100 Mile South Downs Walk · 15 June 2007
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
The Challenge: To walk the 100 mile South Downs Way in just 3 days. By comparison, all the guidebooks recommend doing the trail in 9-10 days..... Gulp!
So how did we do? Well, perhaps the phrase "heroic failure" would be the best way of describing it. Having covered 33 miles in 13 hours on Day 1, finishing in rain and darkness at 21:30, our hopes were high. Unfortunately, Day 2 ended with my knee making a popping sound after just 6 miles, and with Dawn's feet blistered and bruised. All that could be done was to rest and recouperate. For pride's sake, on Day 3 we covered a 16 mile stroll into Winchester for the obligatory photographs next to King Alfred.
Given the injuries, the challenge as set was not completed. I'm already planning for next year, when I intend to give it another crack (Dawn is not yet so sure about it!). On the plus side, we covered 55 miles in 21 hours of walking across some beautiful yet challenging terrain and in the process raised more than £1,000 for the BHF.
If you're impressed with what we achieved, please dig deep to make a donation to the BHF. Every little helps.....
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: British Heart Foundation will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks to all those who have supported us so far, and especially to my parents who went to the trouble of making bacon sandwiches en route and ferrying the injured back to base camp at the end of each day....
Luv
Sam & Dawn
