Story
My name is Adam and I am a physiotherapist in the Neuro Rehab team at East Lancashire NHS Trust. I plan to cycle 10km everyday in May, using an exercise bike at work and at home. I am doing this to raise money to support the rehabilitation of both coronavirus patients and those patients close to my heart in Neuro Rehab who are missing out at the moment due to self isolation and social distancing. As a service we have had to unfortunately significantly reduce any face to face treatment for both our outpatient and community patients due to coronavirus unless less they require urgent support.
The money raised will go towards resources and equipment to support the rehabilitation of inpatients, outpatients and community patients with neurological conditions or those recovering from coronavirus as we know #rehabmatters
I am doing this is because, working in the NHS, I always want to do our best to support every patient but I have personally been unable to treat those recovering from coronavirus due to the recent arrival of our third child and the risks associated with passing the virus to our baby. I therefore hope to raise the money to support these patients in another way. I also want to support my team in neuro rehab as we have often struggled for more expensive equipment. Our patients are currently limited to video calls and telephone support and these extra resources would be utilised once they are able to return to face to face therapy but potentially also whilst self isolating.
Some of you may think 10km on an exercise bike isn't too difficult but trust me I've tried and it wasnt easy as I'm not the fittest bloke. As the days progress and hopefully so does my fitness, at this point we may start increasing the difficulty using extra resistance but I'm open to ideas. Feel free to join me if it's just for the day or the whole month all your support is appreciated!!
