12Ks of Xmas · 1 December 2021

The UK's leading charity for veterans' mental health. For over a century, we've helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, we provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict.

Story

12 teams from the RAF with a total of 144 personnel will be completing a run of 12km each, every day for 12 days to raise funds for Combat Stress.

This challenge was created to not only raise funds but to raise awareness of the charity who can and do do so much to help the veterans with mental health needs.

The concept was created by Flight Sergeant Lunn who he himself has battled with mental health issues. Whilst being admitted  to hospital, he became acquainted with a veteran soldier who had been struggling since leaving the service. Flt Sgt Lunn was ashamed to admit that he had not known of the charity combat stress and wishes he could have been able to signpost this veteran to the charity. He needed to do something to not only help give back, but raise awareness as much as possible, and what better than 144 service personnel running 144km each in 12 days!

Combat Stress are the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. For over a century, they’ve helped former servicemen and women deal with trauma-related mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).They’re on a mission to raise awareness that invisible injuries can be just as hard to cope with as physical ones. So when a veteran is having a tough time, they’re there to help them tackle the past and take on the future.
