Biomedical research into M.E.is seriously underfunded. We need to do more if we are to learn how and why this cruel illness starts - how to test for it or treat it, or better still, how to cure it.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

After 14 years of living with debilitating fatigue, I have been lucky enough to completely recover my health. The M.E community has done so much to support me whilst I have been unwell and I'd now like to give back by raising some much-needed funds. M.E is a serious and isolating condition at worst and sufferers urgently need more research to have a chance of getting some semblance of their lives back. All the money I'm raising will go towards the Ramsay Research Fund which aims to fund biomedical research. It offers genuine hope to a group of people who at worst are very seriously ill.

I have chosen a walking challenge because when I was at my most affected, I was walking very little and using a wheelchair for trips out. My average was perhaps around 3-400 steps a day although some days I wouldn't have even hit that. I have been building my walking since I recovered and the plan is to now walk 1 million steps over the coming months. This will be a genuine challenge for me as I build my fitness back up.

The ME Association campaigns hard to get ME recognised as a severe neurological illness. Our helpline provides essential information and support to adults and children who have ME/CFS, and to their families and carers. We also fund biomedical research into the physical nature and causes of ME/CFS.
