I have always wanted to help others and as an extra incentive not to give up and I wanted to raise money for a cause that has personally affected my family
My late father was diagnosed with Kidney failure and refused the help from his children to donate as he felt it wasn't right.
My father began dialysis treatment in 2007 and was always in & out of hospital. Although it never stopped him doing what he wanted. The old man was a very strong minded individual, nothing would keep him down.
My father was admitted to Prince Charles Hospital in December 2010 as his toes had began to turn black and he became very confused. He was taken into intensive care after the toes were removed. Seeing him in intensive was very emotional, all body was trembling and he was not aware of his surrounding. I had to feed him water though a sponge on my daily visits. During this time we was advised that it would only be a matter of time before he would pass due to all his complications. We were all devastated. The very strong father we had known became so weak. While in intensive care it was decided for him to be transferred to Cardiff University Hospital.
On admission to Cardiff University Hospital my father had to undergo an emergency operation at Cardiff University Hospital to have both his legs amputated and clear his many stomach ulcers - Cardiff University Hospital saved his life and after approx 6 months of rehabilitation he made a miraculous recovery due to all the help given from everyone at Cardiff University Hospital
During his illness his fistula had to moved 4 times due to his veins collapsing and had many lines inserted into his stomach an neck to connect him to the dialysis machine. He must have undergone over 15 procedures in total.
Throughout his treatment he had many stays at Ward B5 and all the staff were outstanding. Saved his life many times and always helped us when it was required. They never gave up on my father and fought for right him up until his passing on May 2015. I would like to thank Cardiff university hospital for their commitment & dedication they provided to my dad.
Kidney failure can affect a person’s health in several ways and I would like to make a little difference by raising money for Cardiff University Hospital Ward B5 to help them continue to support kidney patients to improve their standard of life as they did with my father. Please help if you can. Thank you for your support and generosity to a worthwhile cause.
Thank you again to Ward B5 for your time and support from all of my family including my wife Sarah Jones. Brothers: Wyn & Ryan. Sisters: Margaret Amos & Sian Jones. Mother Susan Jones and all the grandchildren
