Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Did you know every year, 8 million tonnes of plastic are dumped into our oceans and it’s reported that over half of that is in the form of single use, disposable plastics. That means it was only used once before heading to our landfills and oceans, with detrimental effects on our shared oceans and the wildlife that inhabits them.

Launching globally on April 20th 2020, Global WAKEcup and our charity partners The Marine Conservation Society are aiming to inspire people around the world to take part in our 1 Week No Single-Use Plastic Challenge and reduce their plastic footprint.

Last year people from over 50 countries took part and we raised over £5000 pounds for ocean conservation!

This year Global WAKEcup and our charity partner - The Marine Conservation Society are asking everyone who takes part in the challenge, to donate any amount no matter how small  - the cost of your monthly (suggested £30), weekly (suggested £10) or daily takeaway coffees (suggested £3) would be fantastic!

All donations will be put to good use by The Marine Conservation Society, the UK’s leading charity for the protection of our seas, shores and wildlife.

You can take the challenge on any week this year and by sharing the campaign message, your success stories, zero waste tips and - please be honest! - any epic fails with your network of followers, you'll be letting not only your friends but also big businesses and government institutions know that we want to end our throwaway culture now!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
