In 2015 I ran 5km or more every single day for Alzheimer's Research UK.
This year I'm proud to continue my support of this fabulous and worthwhile cause, and am going to run 2016km, which is a bit more than last year without the "every day" constraint (I will still be running virtually every day, I just don't want to push my luck!).
My inspiration for starting all this nonsense was Leslie Terence Hurst, my father-in-law. He spent the last 10 years being gradually eaten, beaten and thrashed by the cruel and currently unstoppable onslaught of Alzheimer's. He finally threw off the shackles on 21st November last year, and the family can now mourn and miss the wise and funny man that he was rather than pitying the shell that he became.
I don't want this to happen to me or any of my friends. I definitely don't want it to happen to my children or theirs. Alzheimer's is a disease and as such is curable; we just don't know what that cure is yet. Let's help fund the research and find out before it's too late.
