Story
When you bring a child into the world the last thing you want to hear is that they are poorly. You can’t help but think it’s something you did wrong and as a first time family, we were thrown into a new life we never expected.
After 3 weeks of care at Ipswich it soon became apparent that Dexter needed specialised urgent attention and we were whisked up to Kings College, unbeknown to us that it was the leading liver specialist in paediatric care in the country. We were gobsmacked by the level of care we received from every member of staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Rick was given as place to stay via the Ronald McDonald House charity & we had access to all their facilities. The most heart breaking part was seeing just so many families and children struggling with life-threatening conditions. Once Dexter was diagnosed with hepatitis and an enlarged spleen we were given direct access to the best dieticians, specialists and sonographers to give him the best care plan possible. We were then discharged to outpatients, where we returned for 4 years until he was finally discharged and given the all clear.
So now I want to give back. I want to do something for this wonderful hospital that saved my babies life. I would like to fundraise specifically for the Rays of Sunshine ward and paediatric outpatients at Kings College. Although they are a large hospital, they are crying out for financial support.
I’ve been thinking for a while about what I can do to fundraise. I can’t run very fast or swim very far. I can’t eat too much or stay silent. But what I do have, that I LOVE and is a huge part of my personality.. is my hair. And that I can give 🥺
I’ve been researching the wonderful work that
The Little Princess Trust do. They provide free real hair wigs to children and young people, up to 24 years, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.
So please dig deep and give what you can. Hopefully by raising money and donating my hair I will help so many children in need of support.
My best friend Vicky will be cutting approximately 9inches of my hair on Monday 21st September so any donations before this time would be gratefully received xx
