2021 Torch Run - Teltown to Trim for NCBI · 23 July 2021
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm raising funds for the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) by carrying a torch while running 22 kms from Teltown to Trim on Friday 23 July, which will also be the opening night of the 2020 Olympic Games. Teltown is the site of pre-Christian burial mounds, similar to Newgrange albeit smaller in scale. Funeral games are reputed to have been first held at Teltown circa 1600 BCE, over 800 years before ancient Greek games began at Olympia in 765 BCE. The festival of Aonach Tailteann was celebrated here in the final fortnight of July culminating with the harvest festival of Lughnasadh on 1 August. NCBI is a charity working nationwide to support people with sight loss, a group in need of our support during the current pandemic more than ever before. I previously completed the Dublin Marathon in support of NCBI and hold great admiration for their valuable work throughout Ireland. For these reasons I would welcome your support of this worthy cause as I carry a light from the Blackwater to the Boyne.
