Story
What am I doing:
I am fundraising for Head for Change to increase awareness and support for Men's Mental Health in Rugby.
How:
The 2022 in 2022 is me running/walking 2022km during the year to raise £2022 for two fantastic charities Head for Change & Brave Mind.
I am looking to raise at least £1011 for each charity in 2022.
Why am I doing this:
Head for Change create a safe space for our sporting heroes, past,
present and future that suffer from sports-related brain injuries and connect with the best brains in science and research to make positive change.
They are raising awareness about the impacts associated with head injuries, they offer tools and support groups for those impacted by their chosen sport.
I have two friends who have been diagnosed with early onset dementia from a career in professional rugby, and my eldest son was side-lined with concussion for 5 months after a concussion during his GCSE year. I want to continue to raise awareness concussion and brain care.
If you are a member of a rugby club you will have been in contact with current, and previous players who have suffered or will suffer from health problems associate with repeat knocks to their heads whilst playing.
Who am I:
My name is Craig, I coach Skipton RFC in Yorkshire 3 in the Northern
Division in the UK. I have just turned 50 and prior to beginning this challenge hadn't been out and about properly for a good 12 months. I am not ultramarathon runner, and would fit quite nicely into most front rows.
I began the 2022in2022 Challenge on the 2nd of January 2022, so far I
have covered just over 141 km @ 9 February having suffered a couple of calf injuries in January and February. I will aim to run as far as possible, but where I can't I will walk.
So what does the distance look like
in reality?
2022 km's is similar to driving from Bradford where I am based to
Perpignan in France and back, which is a hell of a long way!!!
Progress Updates:
I will be podcasting my journey through the year, how much I have raised, my injuries, any funny stories along the way, which I have encountered a number so far, hints and tips on improving ones mental health, along with some fantastic guests. The podcasts are to be informative, between 5 and 10 minutes long, and functional.
What can you do:
Your journey may have involved challenges with mental health, or maybe a family member or child, so please help me by donating a few pennies, pounds, dollars to Head for Change, and also to Brave Minds who is the other charity I am supporting.
