Story
What am I doing:
Fundraise for Brave Mind to increase awareness and support for Men's Mental Health in Rugby.
The 2022 in 2022 is me running/walking 2022km during the year to raise £2022 for two fantastic charities
Brave Mind & Head for Change
I am looking to raise at least £1011 for each charity in 2022.
Why am I doing this:
There are a lot of young and mature men in and around our glorious game who have suffered, are suffering and will suffer from mental health challenges albeit through anxiety, depression, or concussion, and who do not know how to deal with their feelings.
They maybe players, coaches, volunteers, but they all have a combined love for rugby union. I want to raise awareness, and bring men out from the dark and into the light, I want to make sure that men know it is normal to have struggles and that there is support available.
Education is key, and working together to encourage that will ensure that they do not suffer alone.
Who are Brave Mind:
Brave Mind is about getting into action, working with rugby clubs and schools to put mental health at the heart of their community. They make talking about and supporting each other with mental health the norm.
25% of rugby players, that we know of, experience poor mental health. Brave Mind provides a national platform to take action and help clubs and schools to improve their approach to supporting mental health in their community. Their ask would be you follow, share and join our movement to tackle mental health in rugby.
Who am I:
My name is Craig, I coach Skipton RFC in Yorkshire 3 in the Northern Division in the UK. I have just turned 50 and prior to beginning this challenge hadn't been out and about properly for a good 12 months. I am not ultramarathon runner, and would fit quite nicely into most front rows.
I began the 2022in2022 Challenge on the 2nd of January 2022, so far I have covered just over 141 km @ 9 February having suffered a couple of calf injuries in January and February. I will aim to run as far as possible, but where I can't I will walk.
So what does the distance look like in reality? 2022 km's is similar to driving from Bradford where I am based to Perpignan in France and back. That's a hell of a long way on foot.
Progress Updates:
I will be podcasting my journey through the year, how much I have raised, my injuries, any funny stories along the way, which I have encountered a number so far, hints and tips on improving ones mental health, along with some fantastic guests. The podcasts are to be informative, between 5 and 10 minutes long, and functional.
What can you do:
Your journey may have involved challenges with mental health, or maybe a family member or child, so please help me by donating a few pennies, pounds, dollars to Brave Mind, and also to Head for Change who is the other charity I am supporting. It all helps.
