We provide expert, specialist support to women & children fleeing domestic abuse

Story

Welcome to my page!

I'd like to explain the fantastic job Refuge do daily to help thousands of women and children worldwide and in conclusion explain the challenge that myself, Andrew and Marcus are undertaking on 22/07/17

One woman in four will experience domestic violence at some point in her lifetime (Pick 4 female members of family e.g. Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Niece, Sister etc...) and two women are killed each week in England and Wales by a current or former partner.

Refuge supports over 4,500 women & children on any given day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.

What your money can buy...

For just 33p a day (£10 a month) you could support the stay of a woman and her children in one of our refuges. Your support could mean the end to months or years of domestic violence for a woman, or the end to a child witnessing the trauma of domestic abuse.

£8 a month could help women enter the job market

Often women are stopped from working by their abusers, or they may have had to leave their job to escape violence and abuse. Your regular donation could help give women back their independence to find work.

£2 a month could pay for an emergency pack

Sometimes women need to escape in a hurry and arrive at our refuges with nothing but the clothes they are wearing. Your regular gift could pay for the emergency packs we provide.

£10 could pay for a child's school pack

A school uniform for their new school will help children to fit in with children at their new school and stop them feeling lonely. Your donation could help us to provide a school pack for these children.

£35 could pay for a children's fun day

At our refuges we hold fun days of activities for children, helping them to play in a safe and happy environment. Your donation could help them be children again.

£75 could pay for a local support group

We hold support sessions for women who are still living with domestic violence and want to find out their options. This is a vital way to reach women in the community.

The Trip

Myself, Andrew and Marcus are embarking on an enduring trek on bicycle from "Costa del Colchester" to the Island of Ibiza, a whopping 1273 miles!
As much as I claim to be the Messiah, I can in fact not walk on water so yes, there will be train and ferry transport involved.
Our journey will begin in out home town Colchester on 22nd of July 2017 where we will cycle to the Eurotunnel station @ St. Pancras, London. (By this time I will probably already be wishing to give up!) From Paris it is a leisurely 725 mile stroll through France and Spain to the Port of Barcelona. From there it is a 9 hour ferry to the Island. Thankfully our return journey is by plane! This journey should take us up until 5th August (I do hope so as I'm booked back in to work on the 7th!)

I needn't have to explain why I have chosen to support this charity as their message is clear. It is imperative that we live in a world where women feel safe, empowered and appreciated the way they affect, protect and project their love to their children. To remove this, be it physically or emotionally is a atrocity.

By kindly sponsoring me today you are helping to save and change the lives of thousands of woman and children escaping domestic violence. Thank You
