6 December 2009 - well they have done it! Today there are bruised and battered bodies around the Borders of men who have run around the football pitch through a 24 hour period and raised funds for the Borders Cancer Unit.
The final score was as follows: The Bibs won with a total of 187 goals and the Non-Bibs scored 162 goals making an overall tally of 349 goals.
A tremendous 24 hours of expert football playing and thanks to all who supported the event. We will update the total of donations once all the sponsorship forms and donations have been collected.
04/12/09 16.25 News Update.......Final touches are being made to the pitch, Media coverage is building, The fans are making their way to the stadium, Players will soon be starting their familiar pre match routines..............and the BGH A&E is on standby!!!
You may be aware that Alison Gaddie is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. As a gesture of support and solidarity with Mark and Alison the Melrose 30, 40 & 50 plus year old Friday footballers are planning a 24 hour continuous 7 a side game of football. The game will run without a break starting at on Friday 4th of December finishing at on Saturday 5th of December. To The Gala academy pitch (outdoors for those who think we will be in the warmth of an indoor facility) has been booked and we are now looking for medics, bandages and crutches to see everyone through this winter task! The event will raise sponsorship money to be donated to the Borders General Hospital Cancer Centre. Border Toyota are sponsoring the electricity ( this will be on for at least 16 hours as we are playing through the night). Jonathan Fletcher has coordinated the timings and we have several Doctors playing so injuries should be catered for!
It is Lachlan Gaddie's 9th birthday on Saturday and his friends are filling in from 10-11am.
