24 Peaks Challenge · 31 January 2007
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
Update 1 - We made it to our £4000 target, so thanks to everyone who has sponsored us so far. But we decided that there's no point stopping there, so we've increased the target to £4500! So keep on giving! Please!
Update 2 - WE'VE DONE IT!! We were successful in completing the challenge, and we did it in 22 hours 51 minutes. And all of us that started managed to finish too, which was quite an achievement given the number of people that dropped out over the weekend.
And... if you haven't sponsored us already, you still can!! Please!
7 members of the Faber Maunsell Transportation Planning team in Altrincham are taking part in the '24 Peaks Challenge' this September, in order to raise £4000 for The Railway Children charity.
We will be walking nearly 50km, covering 24 of the Lake District's highest peaks (all over 2400ft) in just 24 hours, split over 2 days. The first day will be a 14 hour trek beginning at 5am, taking in 10 of the highest peaks (including Scafell Pike, the tallest mountain in England), and covering over 28km of difficult terrain. Day 2 will include 14 peaks over a distance of 19 km in 10 hours, also beginning at 5am. The total ascent for the entire challenge will be 13,133ft (4000m). As you can imagine, this will be no small feat!
Mike has been out there already for the mountain awareness course, and from the photos he took it looks pretty intimidating. This isn't going to be a pleasant walk up a few hills!
Further details of the 24 Peaks Challenge can be found here.
Info about The Railway Children charity:
Railway Children supports street children living alone and at risk on the streets. They help children all over the world, many of whom live in and around railway stations (hence their name). Last year they helped over 24,000 street children around the world.
The focus of their work is stopping the abuse of children living on the streets and they now work with over 40 partner organisations, with 117 projects worldwide across Africa, Asia, South America and Europe.
The Railway Children used to be British Rail's charity, which is why it is closely linked to the transport profession, and why the Faber Maunsell team are taking on this challenge!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The Railway Children will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor us now!
Many thanks for your support,
Andy, Simon, Colin, Pete, Mike, Rich and Stu.
PS - If you can put a proper name in the box when you sponsor it would be good, so that way we know who to thank. Cheers!
