We all know the impact that the last 18 months has had on a lot of our mental states, well if you or someone you know has experienced poor mental health recently or ever, I’d like you to join me through That Crafty Stitch in raising money for Mind, the mental health charity - who are here to make sure anyone with a mental health problem has somewhere to turn for advice and support.

On Thursday 16th September, from 10am I will be knitting for 24 hours straight (toilet and tea breaks are thankfully allowed!) this will be covered on my Instagram Live where you can find me here: www.instagram.com/that_craftystitch so you know I’m not cheating!

I, like so many have experienced difficulties with my mental health from time to time, particularly a period of depression, which thankfully I am past now. A large part of getting past that was finding my passion for crafting again and in particular knitting. I didn’t know before, but knitting has so many positive mental health benefits. It not only keeps your hands busy and away from your phone, but it helps create serotonin! The rhythmic actions in knitting actually help to release the neurotransmitter serotonin in our brains, this is the hormone that stabilises our mood, creates feelings of well-being and happiness, it also helps with sleep, eating and good digestion. Plus at the end of your knitting sesh you’ll have something gorgeous to look at or wear!
